Overview
Health care innovations have always been important to the advancement of medical care and the well-being of the individual. These innovations have taken on an even greater significance in the recent decade due to the national attention on making affordable care accessible to more people by reducing the overall cost of care. These innovations can be seen in products as well as services that complement the health care industry. Some of these innovations occur inside the medical facility while others are present outside medical facilities. Technology artefacts that support innovations in patient care need to consider the complex care process between patients and a team of health care providers. This calls for an integration of these technology artefacts (products) with innovative care processes to align the goals of many of these care providers with the health needs of their patients. The goal of this workshop is to look at a mix of product and process innovations in each stage of the care cycle: preventive care, “hospital†care and post-discharge care. The workshop panelists will present their work in the design and delivery of health care innovations as well as opportunities and challenges in assimilating such innovations into the care processes.
